WHY DO I NEED AN IDP?
The International Driver’s Permit translates your driver’s license so you can show it to officials in foreign countries to help them interpret your native driver’s licence. It is often required by several car rental companies and can help you avoid negative situations when dealing with authorities.
The International Driver’s Permit (IDP) provided by The International Driver’s Association is a translation of your official government issued native driver’s license into 12 languages. It has been designed to be simple to use and easy to understand for both English and Non-English speaker. It can be a useful advantage for motorists who are traveling overseas and need to deal with authorities.
IDP’s are commonly known as International Driving Permits which are official documents provided by governmental agencies such as your local AAA offices. The IDL has no official status and does not replace your driving licence.
