At first I was disappointed in my order. Little did I realize the problem was caused by my own error. The Customer Service rep, who first addressed my issue, did not seem to address the issues. However, in a further exchange of emails, it was discovered where the problem was, in an error I made. Throughout the entire issue the customer service folks were courteous and helpful. The issue was finally resolved and the customer service people bent over backward to make sure I was satisfied. I am very pleased with the service I received

Top Destinations in Mozambique

Mozambique has some of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Southeastern Africa, especially since it is full of coastal areas. So whether it’s going on a wildlife safari, mingling with the locals, or relaxing by the beach, you can have it all in Mozambique. Be sure to read this guide to have the most fun in the country’s top destinations.

Gorongosa National Park

Gorongosa National Park is one of Mozambique’s top tourist attractions. In 2008, the “Gorongosa Project” was formed by the government and the Carr Foundation. This was done to manage the park and nearby settlements. And in 2018, the government of Mozambique signed an extension of the park’s management for an additional 25 years.

The Gorongosa is home to diverse wildlife as well as locals who are living in communities. Travelers visiting the park can experience the stunning scenery, the biodiversity, and the cultures and traditions of the people. If you plan to visit Gorongosa National Park, make sure to schedule your trip during the dry season, which falls from April to November, as the wet season can bring floods, causing the roads to close.

Driving Directions:

  • From Inchope, drive straight through the intersection and continue on the EN1.
  • Cross a bridge over the Pungwe River and continue driving until the sign for Gorongosa National Park can be seen.
  • Turn right onto the dirt road and continue driving to the park’s entrance gate.

Are you going to be road-tripping or even simply driving abroad? If so, you should apply for an International Driving Permit for Mozambique from the IDA website. Since you’re applying online, this also means that your IDP will be shipped to you. So to quickly receive your International Driving Permit for Mozambique, your zip code or postal code must also be included in your address.

If it’s your first time obtaining an IDP, do know that the International Driving Permit for Mozambique has few requirements, which you can check out at the website’s FAQs page. And in case you’ve lost your international driver’s licence while traveling in Mozambique, simply provide your name and IDP number to customer service to receive a new one that’s free of charge.

Remember that you should always have your International Driving Permit whether you’re in Mozambique’s districts or its cities. This is because checkpoints are common in the country, and traffic police might need an IDP with your valid driver's license. Don’t forget that no matter your location in Mozambique, you must always have your international driver’s licence with you.

Inhaca Island

Roughly 7,000 years ago, Inhaca Island, also known as Ilha de Inhaca, used to be part of the mainland until it broke off and became an island of its own. Now lying around 40 km offshore from Maputo, it has become a tropical paradise, especially for people who want a weekend getaway in tMozambique’sess popular and crowded islands. Furthermore, Inhaca Island is not only a tourist destination but an important marine research center, too.

Visiting tourists can enjoy many activities and attractions aside from the beach itself. Birders can go bird watching for over 300 bird species living on the island, while ocean lovers can dive offshore to see the stunning corals and wrecks. The best time to visit Inhaca Islands would depend on what activities you plan to see, but if you just want to experience the islands, the months of June to August are already quite ideal.

Driving Directions:

  • From Maputo International Airport, head straight, then turn right.
  • Keep right to continue toward Av. Acordos De Lusaka.
  • Make a slight right then a slight left to stay onto Av. Acordos De Lusaka.
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on Av. Acordos De Lusaka.
  • By the roundabout, continue straight onto Av. Guerra Popular.
  • Turn left toward Av. Filipe Samuel Magaia.
  • Make a right at the 1st cross street onto Av. Filipe Samuel Magaia.
  • Turn left onto Av. Ho Chi Min.
  • Then make a right and at the roundabout, take the 5th exit.
  • Keep right to continue toward Avenida Samora Machel, then keep right again to stay on the road.
  • Turn left onto R. Ngungunhane and then turn right.
  • Continue straight. These directions lead to Catembe Ferry Pier, where you can take a ferry to reach Inhaca Island.

Driving on beaches is not allowed in Mozambique, so you must always heed this rule. However, tourists can drive on the islands; if you wish to do so, make sure to have your license and International Driving Permit for Mozambique, which can be used internationally as well. If you want to read more about this, you can check out the IDA website’s About Us page to know about the other uses of your international driver’s licence in Mozambique.

Don’t forget that by applying from IDA, your international driver’s licence is valid in Mozambique; Mozambican offices and organizations that issue IDPs are automatically invalid for foreigners as IDPs must come from the applicants’ home country. If you don’t have an IDP yet, you can apply for an international driving license from IDA and have it shipped to your location.

Furthermore, if you’ve lost your International Driving Permit in Mozambique, provide your IDP number and name to customer service to get a new copy. Since IDA ships worldwide, expect to receive your international driver’s licence in Mozambique after providing your current location.

Macuti Beach

For an alternative weekend getaway, another gorgeous tropical destination is Macuti Beach. It may not be as striking as the islands and archipelagos scattered up north or down south of Mozambique, but it has certain attractions that draw tourists in, such as its lighthouse that still stands tall since 1904 and the enchanting shipwreck in front.

The entire scenery seems to be taken straight out of a novel, but at the right time and season, visiting Macuti Beach would surely be worth it. If you want to explore the wreckage, drop by during the low tide, so you can wade through the waters and see the ruins up close. Also, watching the sunset and stargazing at night is otherworldly in Macuti Beach. So if you want to see the beach for yourself, you can drop by for a visit during winter (June to August), as the weather is cooler and the waters are warmer.

Driving Directions:

  • From Beira International Airport, head west, then turn left.
  • Turn left and continue straight.
  • Make a left onto Estr. Manga Aeroporto.
  • Turn left. Your destination will be on the right.

Established in 1960, the Maputo Special Reserve, formerly known as the Maputo Elephant Reserve, is one of the planet's biologically 36 richest yet most endangered ecoregions. Niassa Reserve

Niassa Reserve, located in northern Mozambique, is the largest reserve in the country with the highest concentration of wildlife. The reserve encompasses nearly a third of Niassa province and some parts of Cabo and is home to various animals. However, Niassa Reserve has experienced its fair share of loss over the years due to poaching and the overexploitation of other natural resources.

Eager guests can go sightseeing and can even mingle with the locals who live in the province. Niassa Reserve is rich in biodiversity and culture upheld by its residents, so it’s unfortunate that it doesn’t get as much love as other national parks and reserves in Mozambique and the rest of Africa. The best time to visit Niassa Reserve would be during the dry season (April to November), so make sure to come over during this time for an ideal experience.

  • Turn right at the 1st cross street.
