New Lighting Illuminates Temple of Poseidon After 20-Year Upgrade
Temple of Poseidon Shines With New Lighting
The iconic Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion is now brighter than ever, thanks to a new lighting system that was installed after two decades. The project aims to enhance the beauty of the ancient monument while protecting its integrity.
Located at the southeastern tip of Attica, the Temple of Poseidon has been a symbol of Greece’s history and culture for 2,500 years. The new lighting is designed to highlight its unique geometry and ensure that the temple shines from every angle, whether viewed from the sea or land.
The modern lighting system, designed by Eleftheria Deko and her team, who also handled the Acropolis lighting, was made possible through grants from the Onassis Foundation. The upgrade replaces the old system, offering a significant improvement in both brightness and energy efficiency.
In addition to enhancing the temple’s appearance, the project included work on the entrance and exit areas, improving safety and access for visitors. The lighting not only allows the monument to glow at night but also ensures that it remains protected and preserved for future generations.
The new lighting at the Temple of Poseidon represents a blend of modern technology and ancient history, celebrating Greece’s cultural legacy.
