Heathrow Set for Major Expansion with Billions Invested in Terminals

Heathrow Airport is moving forward with a massive expansion. The airport confirmed a multi-billion-pound investment to upgrade Terminals 2 and 5, laying the groundwork for a long-debated third runway.

CEO Thomas Woldbye announced plans to have planes taking off from the new runway within 10 years. The west London airport, already one of the busiest in the world, aims to improve passenger experience, resilience, and sustainability.

The project is privately funded and will modernize existing infrastructure while preparing for the third runway. Woldbye highlighted that the upgrades would boost UK investment and economic growth, with some benefits expected this year.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves recently backed the expansion to a third runway, citing economic benefits. However, critics argue it contradicts the UK’s 2050 net-zero target. London Mayor Sadiq Khan remains a vocal opponent, vowing to fight the project.

Heathrow is not the only airport expanding. Luton and Gatwick also have major upgrades planned, making London a key aviation hub for years to come.
