Work and Travel in Taiwan: Digital Nomad Visa Now Open

As of January 1, 2025, Taiwan is welcoming digital nomads worldwide with its newly launched digital nomad visa. This program allows remote workers to live and work in vibrant locations like Hualien, Taitung, Tainan, and Pingtung for up to six months, making Taiwan one of Asia’s top destinations for digital professionals.

Designed to boost the island’s economy and attract global talent, the visa provides a streamlined residency process, special incentives, and even the possibility of permanent residency. Taiwan’s program joins the ranks of other successful digital nomad initiatives in countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and South Korea, but it stands out with unique benefits, such as the potential to earn an “Employment Gold Card” for up to 10,000 eligible individuals.

Applicants must meet specific income requirements to qualify for the digital nomad visa. Those aged 30 and above need to show proof of an annual income exceeding USD 60,000, while younger applicants (aged 20 to 29) must earn at least USD 24,000 annually. Applicants with prior digital nomad visas from other countries may benefit from expedited processing.

The visa begins with an initial three-month stay, extendable for another three months, offering professionals six months of immersion in Taiwan’s rich culture and cutting-edge innovation hubs. Furthermore, the program includes partnerships with cities like Osaka and Fukuoka in Japan, as well as major South Korean locations, allowing seamless travel across East Asia.

With an ambitious goal of attracting 400,000 remote workers by 2032, Taiwan is positioning itself as a global hotspot for professionals seeking cultural exploration and professional growth.
