Thailand to Launch E-Visa for Indians in 2025

Starting January 1, 2025, Thailand will launch its new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system in India, the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi announced. The initiative aims to streamline the visa application process for Indian travelers, allowing applications to be submitted online.

The 60-day visa exemption for Indian passport holders traveling for tourism and short business purposes will remain in place. However, for other visa categories, applicants will need to submit their requests exclusively through the official website designated by the Thai Embassy.

The new e-visas are expected to be processed within 14 working days. Travelers must note that visa fees will apply, and these fees are non-refundable under all circumstances. While the specific details regarding payment and fees are yet to be announced, the Embassy confirmed that both online and offline payment options will be available.

The transition to the new system will begin ahead of its full implementation. Ordinary passport holders will be able to submit visa applications until December 16, 2024, while those with diplomatic and official passports can submit their applications at Thai consulates until December 24, 2024.

This e-visa initiative is part of a larger expansion by Thailand to modernize its visa services globally. As of October 2024, the e-visa service has already been rolled out in 39 countries and across 59 Thai embassies and consulates worldwide. The move eliminates the need for in-person visits to embassies, providing a more efficient and user-friendly process for travelers.
