Ministry Announces Record Visitor Numbers for Istanbul in 2024

Istanbul, one of the globe’s most magnetic tourism hubs, has kicked off 2024 with an impressive surge in visitor numbers, setting a record.

In the first four months of the year, over 5 million international travelers flocked to this captivating city, marking a notable 10 percent increase from the same period last year.

According to the Culture and Tourism Ministry, Istanbul welcomed 5,244,936 foreign visitors between January and April, highlighting its appeal to travelers.

April 2024 was particularly vibrant for Istanbul, drawing in 1,478,218 foreign visitors—a remarkable 14.6 percent rise compared to April 2023. This influx reaffirms Istanbul’s role in Turkish tourism, showing how many want to wander its historical sights, experience the culture, and sample the culinary delights.

Istanbul Airport, the city’s primary gateway, received a huge share of arrivals, welcoming 1,063,035 foreign visitors in April, accounting for nearly 73 percent of air traffic.
