일부 국가, 렌터카 업체, 보험 회사 및/또는 교통 당국에서는 해외에 있을 때 IDP를 요구할 수 있으므로 항상 소지하는 것이 좋습니다. 요청 시 항상 IDP와 함께 국내 운전면허증을 소지하고 제시해야 합니다.
국제 운전 허가증(IDP)은 국제 협약에 따라 관리되는 여행 문서입니다. 소지자가 해외에서 운전할 수 있도록 운전면허증을 번역한 것입니다. IDP는 본국에서 발급받은 유효한 운전면허증을 대체하는 것이 아닙니다.
경우에 따라 목적지 국가 정부는 외국인 방문객에게 IDP를 요구하지 않을 수 있지만 일부 렌터카 회사(Hertz, Avis 등)에서는 차량 대여를 위해 국제 운전 허가증을 요구할 수 있습니다.

중국은 국제 운전면허증을 인정하지 않으며, 외국인 운전자는 중국 운전면허증을 취득해야 합니다.
