Does Indonesia recognize IDP?

Yes, Indonesia is one of those countries that recognize the validity of an IDP. However, you must know that your IDP will only be considered valid if your home country driving license is present. And it doesn’t matter if it’s in English or not, since not all local Indonesian national police may be well-versed in the language. It allows you to drive in any foreign country without getting a specific driving licence from that country as per the United Nations during the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic.

Our International Driver’s Permit (IDP) is also used when renting a motor vehicle or a motorbike via local car rental companies. That’s why if you want to drive and explore places in Indonesia like Jakarta, it is highly recommended to get one.

When you order from us, our IDP application process is straightforward. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Prepare your valid driver’s license, a passport-sized photo, and credit card.
  2. Fill out the application form according to what is written on your valid driver’s license.
  3. Attach a copy of your driver’s license and your photo.
  4. Input your credit card details to pay for the IDP fee.
  5. Monitor shipment updates via your email.

Can I drive in Indonesia with UK license?

Yes, you can drive in Indonesia whether you have the U.S. driver’s license or a driver’s license from the following countries: Hong Kong, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, New Zealand, and more as long as your driver’s license is supported by an IDP.

However, please note the following when you get your IDP.

  • An IDP does not indicate that you are exempted from local traffic violations
  • It does not indicate that you’re allowed to drive even if you’re below the minimum age to drive in the country
  • If you plan on staying in the country for more than three months, you are advised to take a practical test, theory test, and present a KITAP or permanent stay permit in the country to be granted an Indonesian driving license.

Top Destinations in Indonesia

Indonesia’s collection of marvelous treasures makes it a perfect destination to discover the astonishing diversity of cultures, landscapes, and cities. Having almost 13,500 islands on its territory, there’s no wonder why it is gifted with countless offers for adventure, sacred exploration, and thrilling volcanic activities.

Borobudur

Borobudur is an ancient temple that is also a legendary landmark in Indonesia, the Borobudur. It was built way back in the 8th century and crafted into a traditional Buddhist mandala. Due to its unique structure, it has been highly recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Over the centuries, people forgot about the historical site as most of the population has moved to the eastern section of Java because of volcanic eruptions. However, it has been rediscovered in the 1800s. Since that day, it has been one of the main draws in the country.

Komodo National Park

The Komodo National Park proudly boasts its marine life treasures and the pristine waters that conceal the islands surrounding the site. This park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site for having some of the most abundant and most diverse gems in the world.

In this divine temple, you will be able to see a lot of long-tailed macaques. It is a species of monkey that is mostly seen in Southeast Asia. The cool thing about this site is history. Most Important Driving Rules

If you are planning to drive to Indonesia, take note that the traffic situation in Southeast Asia countries is different from other foreign countries like the U.S., Europe, and Australia. One needs to be knowledgeable about the different behaviors and demeanors of the drivers on the road. Whether it may be a good trait or not, it is better to learn them and be able to know how to deal with them.

Use the left side of the road to drive

Indonesians do follow the “left side of the roadway of life.” So, all local drivers can be seen using the left lane to drive and the right for overtaking if there is leeway. Never tempt to be an unruly driver on the road as it will lead to accidents.

Don’t drive under the influence of alcohol

There have been a lot of reports involving drunk driving in the cities of Indonesia. Remember that the country has zero-tolerance for the drivers who will get caught intoxicated.

Bring rental documents if driving a rented car

In Indonesia, aside from keeping the IDP and real driver’s license, you should also bring the rental documents along your way. This will serve as proof that you don’t own the car and you are just a renter. It will help the authorities know that you are a tourist.

Secure seatbelts on the front seat

Front seat passengers are obliged to wear their seatbelts at all times whenever on the road. Though the seatbelt law only applies to the driver and the front passenger, for the safety of every occupant in the vehicle, they can also fasten their seatbelts with them.

Avoid using a mobile phone while driving

Like in many other countries, the use of handheld devices is strictly prohibited. Drivers should never use their phones while driving. It will only divide their focus on the road. And that’s dangerous.

When you get involved in a traffic accident and get injured, you must wait for the police and medical assistance to come. If you encounter a pedestrian accident, the driver must transport the person in case there is no ambulance available. You would somehow be asked by the authorities in case they request.
